beads on toast
Every bead you will see on this website will be individually hand crafted to the highest
quality and standards. All of these beads have been kiln annealed to remove any
stresses from the glass to ensure durability and strength.
Please note that not all of the lampwork beads you will find on the market have
been annealed or cleaned and inspected making these beads significantly lower in
quality and very unpredictable. They could crack or shatter at the slightest shock.
You start off with assorted rods of glass which are heated up and applied to a
prepared mandrel. This is a long thin rod of metal which is coated with a bead release. This is what gives the beads their holes.
Different colours and designs are applied to the beads surface and layering can
achieve depth and clarity to the design.
Brass tools are used to create uniformed shapes and manipulate the glass into
miniature sculptures.
These are then placed into a kiln and annealed over a long period of time to remove
the stresses and the impurities from the glass. Accidents will happen and if any of
these beads become damaged or cracked, i cannot stress how important it is to
refrain from wearing the beads as this may be dangerous and harmful to the wearer.
